« The Family of Simon Allard (1664-1739) »

English version only

Simon Allard, son of Emery Allard and Julienne Baillou, was born on November 9th 1664 at St-Germain in the City of Poitiers. After the remarriage of his mother in 1683, Simon decided to leave his birth place for La Nouvelle-France. From La Rochelle, the port of embarcation, he travelled to Montreal where he settled and began his family.

The book traces the life of Simon, through his marriage to Catherine Lacombe, the births and marriages of his 10 children and on to his death in 1739. It goes on to describe the development of his children and their families in the second and third generations in the area around Montreal, Assomption County and the Richelieu area. It also looks at the migration of a number of Allards in the mid-1850s beyond their homesteads in Quebec to Northern Ontario, New England and the American midwest.

In addition to the history of Simon and his family, the book contains a listing of their descendants through eight generations.

This book of 400 pages is richly bound in a hard cover in 8 ½ x 11 inch format. It can be purchased directly from the author Edward J. Allard or by phone at the following number (613) 932-7981.

Edward J. Allard

Ed Allard was born in England of a Canadian father and British mother and was raised in Port Arthur, Ontario, (now Thunder Bay). After a long career in the Canadian Forces, he recently retired and currently lives in Cornwall, Ontario.

Over the years, Ed became intrigued that his family had become cut off from its French roots and had little knowledge of its history, beyond a few vague recollections.

With the assistance of the now-defunct Allard Family Association in the late 1980s he began serious research into the lineage of his ancestor, Simon Allard. With the publishing of his book on the subject in 2003, he has broadened his interests to tracing and linking all Allards in Ontario and learning more about the Allard lines that exist in the US.

Ed's mother tongue is English, but he has refined his abilities in French and has been instrumental in the English translations of books by Paul Allard.

********************************************

Paul Allard worked as a civil servant for both Federal and Quebec governments for over 35 years. In the last 20 years, he had been the project director for the Société d'Habitation du Québec.

Paul was very young when he got interested in genealogy. His father Raoul, not long before his death, gave Paul his family genealogical tree and the one of Paul's mother (Antoinette Lebrun) too. Those genealogical trees were made by the Institut Drouin.

However, it is only in 1978 when Paul met Brother Romeo Allard, mariste at Desbiens, Lac St-Jean, that he began to burn with zeal for genealogical research. First, Paul with other passionate people Roméo, Yvon B., Yvon M., Maurice, Lionel founded the Association of Allard Families in 1980.

This dynamic team, in addition with other interested Allards who had joined the Association, was able to organize a marvellous "ALLARD reunion" on June 24th and 25th 1983 at Beaupré Québec.

Before Romeo Allard died in December 1991, Paul Allard got involved with him to enhance the tremendous genealogical work Romeo had begun. Paul made a pledge to Romeo : To continue Romeo's work and to ensure the Allard story would be known by all Allards and everyone interested in Allard ancestry.

Now, Paul Allard is a happy man. He retired in 1994. He has great pleasure from contributing to the Allard history. He also has a number of projects. One of those projects is to write an Allard dictionary. Another project is the publication of 150 pictures taken at the ALLARD gathering in 1983. Currently, he is working on an Allard obituary compilation. His deepest wish would be for as long as possible and also as accurate as possible to be able to answer all the questions anyone would ask concerning the Allard's patronym.

Note : This editor and author (Paul Allard) has obtained the authorisation and the transfer of the copyrights of Roméo Allard on 20 December 20th 1990 of the followings titles : « François Allard », « Pierre Allard », « Simon Allard » and « Les 10 souches Allard ».

Perry Allard

We have few information on Perry Allard. We know that he was born on August 15th 1910 at Waterloo, Shefford, Qc. He was the son of Exéas Allard who was born on August 3rd 1879 at Taftville, Connecticut, U.S. His mother's name was Mary-Ann Perry. Perry Allard got married to Agathe Fortin on June 8th 1939 at St-Georges de Beauce. Perry is a descendant of Simon Allard.

When Perry Allard was leaving in Montreal he accepted to proceed to some very useful research for the publication of the biography of Simon Allard. His work was dynamic and very producing. That allow to write a very interesting story on this great ancestor, his spouse and their children.

Perry Allard had never compiled time nor money he put into his research. Posterity should be very grateful to him for his large detective work.

Perry Allard had only one son Pierre who died two years before him of a terrible car accident on December 20th 1980. He was only 31 years old.

Perry Allard died on July 29th 1982 at the age of 71 years old.

If you have known this man and have a picture of him, we would be very grateful and pleased that you share it with us. Please send it to Anick Cocks

Uldéric Allard

Uldéric Allard was born on May 10th 1869 at Princeville, Arthasbaska. He was the son of Mathias Allard and Marguerite Belleau.

This very handsome man, a bit aristocratic, was a prosperous industrial. He was the owner of many sawmills at Courcelles in the county of Beauce-Sud. After he sold his sawmills, he placed his money in Real Estate. That provided him with the opportunity to enjoy his retirement.

Uldéric got married three times. The first wedding was with the beautiful Archange Labbé on July 14th 1891, but unfortunately Archange died at the age of 23 years old on September 6th 1893. Uldéric had no children to remember his first love. His second wife was Mary Pépin who gave him two beautiful children : Raoul and Yvonne who would become a nun. Sadly, Mary Pépin died on January 19th 1905 at Princeville, Arthabaska. Then, it would be Valéda Létourneau's turn to get married with this elegant Uldéric. However, this union would be like the first one, without any children.

Uldéric liked very much to travel. First, it was for the work and then for fun. He was a very Christian man. He had the pleasure to visit many churches. He took always some time to pray a little during each visit. Also, on one of his travels, he had the great joy to meet His Holiness the Pope Pie XI.

Uldéric Allard died at the age of 85 years old on November 23rd 1954 at Victoriaville, Arthabaska, Québec.
